'RE-Tuning  The Actors' SCALES'

Join us to re-tune in playfulness the actor-performer and the Ensemble – we look forward to meet and be creative together in embodied spirited conversations,
in the theatre space that we will at long last share again!
Based in rural Pembrokeshire South Wales, the residency will provide participants with the

experience of the core aspects of our work,

leading to the daily practice of The Actors’ Scales.

  • The training incorporates body and voice practices: polyphonic singing, improvisations, physical training and impulse work,

musicality and embodiment of the text, to joyfully re-source Ensemble theatre making.

  •  We accompany the participants towards a coherent and organic practice of scales for the theatre performer – similar in effect to the scales of the musicians, drawing on our in-depth practice of ‘co-ordination’, where all the skills of the performer are set to play and develop within the Ensemble.
  •  The work is open and accessible to all actor/performers and actor-musicians; those experimented, or the ones having just started on their journey of discovery into the craft and art of theatre. The training is lead by long-time members of the company.

B

Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, Londonred in the Bone is a multi-national collective of theatre makers based in Brighton, UK. Over the last decade, we have trained, led workshops, hosted residencies,  We aim to restore the actor and ensemble to the centre of performance, using principles of coordination, musicality, impulse, and emotion-action to form our training and, organically, our performance.

Is a multi-cultural company of theatre creators from the UK, Europe and beyond. Over the last fifteen years we have nurtured what is essential and communal between us, to create a training able to bring out what is most joyful and efficacious for our collective practice of theatre and performance making.
We dedicate ourselves to the practical exploration of the craft of the actor and the musician in the actor. Inspired among others by Artaud’s ‘Athletes of the heart’, we seek to make visible the secret life of the soul, from training to performance. We aim to reveal what is inherent, implicit and impulsive within each moment – we thrive towards a collective expression of embodied musicality.
Our practice is rooted in European physical and ensemble theatre traditions; our productions have ranged from the interpretation of the classics to new writing and devised theatre and music performances.
We share and nurture our work through yearly workshops and residencies, a festival of Emergent European theatre in Paris, and the creation of more than thirty productions to date, performed as a collective all over Europe, from the Grotowski Institut in Wroclaw to the Chora Cultural Centre on Samothraki Island, Greece.
